PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC MAGAZINE for January, 1910, devoted a front-page article to Sacramento's street car system and included a number of photographs. Sacramento entered the era of street railroads August 20, 1870 with two horse-drawn cars. By the end of that September all eight of the original cars were in service where they remained until replaced by fully electric cars. This shot shows the fractured remnants of one of the early cars after it had served its purpose.
