Summary
W. F. Sperry purchased the Sacramento Flouring Mill in 1893, where it joined the Pioneer Milling Co. and Upper Bay State Mills as part of the Sperry Flour Combine that took the lion's share of all profits in that product in the days before trust-busters. Before it was dissolved by the State of California in 1936, the Sperry Company's steam-powered rollers produced the area's finest flour. The Pure Milk Distributors, Co., whose facilities are shown in this colorful ad in a 1920 BPOE publication, carried an entire line of specialty dairy goods under the name 'Liberty,' was managed by the same A. W. Sperry who had monopolized the flour industry in the Sacramento area almost 30 years before.
